Block 39 Pumping Station
Challenge
Design a precast structure to replace a cast in place structure and make it easy to assemble on site. Structures of this size are not typically specified precast.
Solution:
Munro engineers designed a unique, inexpensive and fast alternative to the traditional “cast in place” method of construction for this type of structure. They engineered 10 pieces with a maximum mass of 20,000kg to create the 4m wide x 6.1m long x 10m deep structure. The innovative precast design was installed in a day, saving weeks in the construction schedule.
Outcome:
The specially designed precast pumping station saved several hundred thousand dollars in materials and labour onsite.
