York Peel Feedermain

Challenge

The York Peel Feeder main was a large fresh water feedermain designed to transport 381 million l of treated water per day from Peel Region to neighbouring York Region. The contractor, Dufferin Construction (division of Holcim), required the first pipe in February of 2004 with completion by October 2004.

Solution:

Munro was an established gravity producer, but the company had never manufactured pressure pipe. Munro’s successful bid necessitated the design and construction of a new manufacturing facility to produce prestressed concrete cylinder pipe and have the pipe and plant certified for use under the tight deadlines.

Outcome:

Munro supplied 24km of 1800mm and 2100mm diameter prestressed concrete cylinder pipe from their new state of the art manufacturing facility on time.
